Biography


Sheriff J. C. Hooper was elected Nueces County Sheriff on November 3, 2020. He is a lifetime resident of Nueces County. J.C. graduated from King High School in 1978 and earned an Associate in Arts degree from Del Mar College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi. His law enforcement career started with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office as a Jailer in 1981 and then the Port Aransas Police Department before joining the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1983. He worked for the Corpus Christi Police Department for 35 years in the patrol division, training division and the criminal investigations division.

 

Description of Office

  • Serves as a licensed peace officer and is responsible for enforcing the criminal laws of the state.
  • Manages and operates the county jail.
  • Provides security for the courts.
  • Serves warrants and civil papers.
  • Regulates bail bondsmen in counties with no bail bond board.
